Who would have thought.....Bread on sacd?? This release is so much better than I could ever have hoped for with regards to sound quality. yes.....THE MUSIC OF David gates is OF THE LOVEY DOVEY VARIETY........GET OVER IT.

As a group there was a lot of strife going on. Gates wrote the hits which are soft rock classics while the other band members wanted to be rockers. Gates won out and the band collapsed. Its fair to say that we are reading this review because of Gates music rather than the rock stuff.

I was spoiled with the greatest hits cd as all the hits are included. This sacd is essentially half on the bands content. So I am hopeful that volume two will be released some time in the future. If it sounds like this disc all is well.

I own Bread music on vinyl, tape and a terrific 2 disc cd import. The cd set is great in that it gives the listener absolutely everything about this group one could want and the sound is very good as far as cd's go. I always felt that Bread was a group that was recorded very well and I expected any sacd to sound good. But the sound on this new Steve Hoffman sacd is really terrific and it betters all of my purchases including the record.

This Bread music sounds exactly the way you remembered it only twice as good. What really surprised me was not only the transparency of the sound but the dynamic range which is very subtle but when the music kicks in is very dramatic. Of course the volume needs to be cranked really high and the rewards are immediate and unmistakable. Gates voice is crystal clear and luminous, the bass is warm and solid, very lush strings and genuine drum sound. This aacd features terrific stereo imaging. Its also multichannel and this should thrill those fans as well. The instrument separation is also impressive on this sacd. From the moog, strings and voices its easy to hear how they all contributed to the overall sound.

This entire sacd sounds awesome.........every cut from start to finish. I liken this sacd to a pristine copy of the tape source. The tapes are very fresh and clear. Its so good that I didn't totally ignore the rock cuts and I usually did this in the past.

PLAY IT LOUDLY.

Outstanding JOB Mr. Hoffman.
