Well, I'm dipping my toe in the Blu Ray audio waters with these more reasonably priced, 20.99 titles:

Quincy Jones: Big Band Bossa Nova
The Oscar Peterson Trio: Night Train
Nina Simone: I Put a Spell on You

I'll report next month how they sound

Music Direct and Acoustic Sounds are charging $30 for each blu ray audio disc. But we still get zapped for sales tax in NY...........

BTW, Amazon doesn't have the Amy Winehouse Back To Black BD~A. You didn't seem to like it or have you changed your opinion?

Don't bother with Amy, there is no benefit sound wise on Blu Ray. Sounds the same as CD, many people think it's up-sampled to 24/96. No where does it mention that it's 24/96.

No sign of the Peterson on Amazon UK yet.

I have a few BD Spec discs that came out in Japan couple of years back, they are only 44/16 so don't bother with these BD-A if it's just stereo.

Blu Spec CDs are totally different from Blu ray disc.

Blu Spec—16/44

Blu ray Audio—24/96 to 24/192

I certainly hope with the 5.1 release of Moondance and the rave reviews it is also garnering will encourage Warners to release more BD~As in the multichannel format.

As for the lack of a menu (defaults to 5.1 Dolby True HD when inserting disc), it's certainly better than Tom Petty's BD~A of Damn the Torpedoes which goes through all types of riff raff before one can access the menu (about a solid minute or so).

My only other concern: Normally I play my music on my Meridian at between volume setting 62-70........I had to turn it up to 78 in order for Moondance to "bloom." A careless listener who might play another disc without changing the volume could do some serious damage to their speakers.

So, when is SONY going to give us the already IN THE CAN 5.1 remix of Thriller on BD~A??????????

And that would be Amy Winehouse, it is twice as loud as a normally recorded disc. On my Denon I usually listen (average volume) at -20, well Amy I had to rush and turn it down to -38 and still was loud.

On your recommendation, Tom, I'll stick with my UK import RBCD of Back To Black.

Seems the compression wars have even invaded BD~A.......another blatant missed opportunity.

BTW, on the front of the Universal BD~As it states that it's mastered from (at a minimum) 96/24 sources.
Evidently, someone was asleep at the wheel when they mastered Back To Black for BD~A!

No mention at all on Amy Winehouse disc.

AmazonUS has added some additional BD~A titles to their October 30th release date list:

Miles Davis: L'Ascenseur Pour L'Eschafaud
Lionel Ritchie: Can't Slow Down
Bob Marley & the Wailers: Kaya (extended version/deluxe limited edition)
von Karajan: Beethoven Ninth Symphony

I ordered the Miles Davis and Lionel Ritchie BD~As.......Have the vanKarajan 9th on mch SACD (the BD~A, I believe will be stereo, only) and the Bob Marley BD~A is priced at $36 (a rip off when I was able to purchase the Legends BD~A from AmazonUK for under $20 delivered).
