Has anyone bought this complete edition of Bach's Organ Works? Knud Vad is to my knowledge an excellent interpreter, but I wonder about the recording quality of this edition. I have tried to contact menbram, without receiving and answer and no information is available on the internet on the technology of the recording. Is it a simple translation from CD to SACD or is it recorded at a higher fidelity?

It would be great if these were DSD recordings - for the price at JPC it is a steal.

Havent bought it but some advertising clearly states DDD..Due to Membrans very economical way with virtually everything, including covers and quality control they seem to buy in reocrdings cheap. So DSD is very unlikely...
To date they have only issued higher quality than cd quality items...sometimes only just...But at the JPC prices they are a steal....I can only state you will be very lucky to get an email response from Membran (Ive had two under exceptional circumstances).I suppose that applies to a lot of the companies though..
.Note I also think the percentage of Organ works on sacd already issued is far too high...standing by with flame retardent suit and saferty hat

The recordings were made in 2001 and 2002 details I got from the .pdf handout from the website, and would expect the recording to be at least 24/96, if not DSD. As you say, Knud Vad is a fine musician; I would be surprised if the recording quality wasn't at least good. Had I not already a Bach collection I'd be tempted by this one.

Though I'd be wary of buying it from amazon.co.uk, where it's listed as being called 'Swinging Hamburg' from the link...

I have this but naturally it is taking a while to get through all 18 discs! The recording is licensed from Classico Records (http://www.classicorecords.dk/) and as this is their only recording in SACD, I imagine that Brilliant Classics have applied similar technology to that applied to the Mozart boxes. Initial impressions are very favourable in respect of recording quality (no RPO/Membran problems here). The performances are unedited, concert recordings - so there are coughs and mistakes included. For all that, Vad's playing is a stupendous achievement and the notes themselves would make the purchase worthwhile even if the playing was poor. Luckily, the playing is first class so it is a real bargain & very enjoyable.

There was a mixup with the amazon listings which I've now corrected. This set currently isn't available from amazon.co.uk.

Thanks a lot for the answers.

I am in particular interested in what Polly Nomial said about the nice quality of the sound. However, does the set not specify anywhere in what format it was recorded? If not I guess I have to ask the original record company classicorecords!
