Has anyone heard this? It was released in the UK a week ago.

SACD Surround 5.0 (according to AmazonUS website....click onto rear photo of SACD).

The three musical samples available from Ondine's own website sound stunning. Wonderful to have Ms Hewitt represented once again on the SACD format.

Total timing: 75:03

Have played this a couple of times now.

I presume you’re familiar with the music so won’t say anything other than that:

1) Once again, I was struck by how rooted in the 1940’s the symphony is (unlike the Quartet), - mainly due to the use of the ondes martenot with its limited electronic palate. Unlike Shosti’s symphonies, the Turangalila doesn’t transcend its times (for me, anyway).
2) Some of the motifs are equally anachronistic, e.g. the statue and flower themes representing man and woman, the one thrusting and the other passive. A minor point.

Performance: I can really only compare to the Rattle (I can barely remember my other recording, which I think was Ansermet). I’d say this Lintu performance was slightly less cohesive than the Rattle but also slightly more characterful and persuasive.

Sound: I initially thought the sound was a bit too bright but my ears adjusted and a minute in, I was much happier. It is a very full sound, but not too forward (depending on how you set your volume controls). It easily encompasses the sounds and demands of the symphony. I was especially struck by the superb high-frequency bird sounds in the last movement, which were vivid and arresting. Piano and Ondes are both well integrated but stand out when appropriate.

If I had any (minor) complaint its that the sound is a little too centre-focused. More width and separation at the front (the rear speakers are ambience only) would have been nice. However, again, this was a fairly minor point in the overall scheme of things.

Are your comments on the stereo or MC layer?

Thanks for you thoughts, nucaleena. I've had the Naxos recording for years, but I've seldom listened to it. Sometimes I find that an SACD helps bring alive music I haven't formerly cared for. But perhaps, as you say, the piece hasn't dated well: the statue theme does have the air of a B-movie about it.
