Does anyone know anything about these Supreme Jazz titles? There’s 13 including this one by my favorite jazz drummer.

They are only EUR 5,99 and are due out March 30th according to JPC. Are they a new label to SACD or a jazz division of Membran?

Anyone know if they are anygood?

Thanks in advance,
Teresa

There's 30 all up, I've yet to process the remainder.

These appear to be from Membran.

They're not out yet.

I'm all over Nat King Cole, but I'd like to know the quality as well.

When searching for track titles on allmusic.com (choose the less standard titles) you can find some of the origins of these recordings.

- The Chet Baker disc contains material from his early 1950's Pacific Jazz period.

- The Clark Terry SACD seems to be the 1960 Candid album "Color changes":

- Part of the J.J. Johnson SACD seems to come from a 1954 album:

At first sight, this looks like the usual public domain releases (like Definitive or Proper Records), but on SACD. Membran has recently released many other public domain recordings on CD:

The problem with these labels in general is that they haven't licensed the material, and so they don't have access to master tapes and have to copy the music from previous CD releases or from vinyl. I wouldn't expect much from these SACDs.

The Buddy Rich SACD is from this 1977 sesssion:

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=ADFEAEE47D16D348A87E20C7932D48999466FC009047FF923B0A5D6DDAA3374E915E39B00BBADBCDB1FC39B773AAFC24A05C1FA2B7&sql=10:9q548qpzbtq4

This might have been duely licensed and transferred from the master tapes, but I wouldn't bet on it since the same music can be found on other dubious CDs releases. It could be that this material is sort of "floating around" because the rightholders are not interested in it.

Part of the Thelonious Monk SACD comes from the 1954 solo recordings made for Vogue.

So it looks like none of these SACDs contains licenced material, as it is either in the public domain (50 years old in Europe) or it is of "grey" origin.

Hi Claude,

those where my "findings" as well...

Most of the material seems to be "public domain" in europe and pre-60's recorded material and I cannot believe that they (I guess Membran) had access to original masters (unless someone can confirm).

The "Multi-Channel" seems to be a joke, nevertheless I might try out the Chet Baker myself.

Cheers, Tjobbe

I was a bit currious and bought the Clark Terry one which is a the same material as the Candid one called Colour Changes http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=ADFEAEE47E1FD346AE7520CB812B1599E422D20AD14EEA9B0D255843D9FB354D913D2EF87BA2DBB3CAB676AB7BABE02CA45A099FCEE453FFD6633B2DFC93&sql=10:cem8b594bsqf (rec. 19th Nov 1960 at New York) but no references within the booklet to it (which in itself seems to be quite reasonable in three languages)

The sound.. cannot judge as I have it in my PC-CDP with Ear-plugs, Stereo for sure.

more to come..

Cheers, Tjobbe
