It's not per se legal, even for your own copy, so don't expect to see a thread here.

Amazon Warehouse deals is selling copies for $6 with prime shipping, at least in the US.

I bought a copy several months ago and it didn't play, like some of the reviews noted. I'd bet those Amazon Warehouse copies have been returned for the same reason.

Why would Amazon put out unplayable copies and incur return shipping costs, as well as customer annoyance?

Good question, Euell, but I have delayed my purchase because of unplayable sets listed on both AmazonUS and UK!
One reviewer surmised that it's a bad batch with actual visible damage on the playing side surface.

My copy plays fine, so it clearly wasn't all discs. Who knows whether the Amazon copies will play...I think for Warehouse Deals they don't do a playback test but they do a physical inspection.

One Amazon poster mentioned he saw a fracture under the disc's surface which might indicate a pressing issue. I took a chance anyway and ordered one brand new through one of Amazon's third party vendors as all the warehouse deals indicated "a small mark on the disc....."
Better to be safe than sorry.
