Thankfully, I opted for the recent Pentatone DSD mch recording of the Manfred by Mikhail Pletnev and the Russian National Orchestra....at one quarter of the price AmazonUS is charging for Kobayashi's stereo only version.

Good move. Despite my feelings about Plentev the Pentatone is a fabulous performance and recording.

I have really grown to enjoy the Pentatone recording. My previous reservations as to some obvious gear changes seem no longer valid. Also being a beautiful recording helps.

I believe the tidbit you were referring to was accusations that he (Pletnev) raped a 14 year old Thai boy.
Were the accusations unfounded?
My guess, apparently so since the article dtd: 6 Aug 2010 stated that a conviction would've resulted in serving a 20 year jail sentence and the man is still conducting.
