Nice review. Still, I can't help think, "round and round she goes, where (this endless up upgraditis) ends, nobody knows." (perhaps we have too much disposable income - sigh)....

This recording, again, proves that there has been absolutely no improvement in audio recording technology since fifties. This gets glowing praise for sound quality and 5 stars! As good or better than any recent 24/96 or DSD original master…

Who needs quiet, noiseless backgrounds, full extended frequency range, absolutely stable timing and compression free dynamics? Not us!

The simple equation, AmonRa, is nostaglia. Nothing more. A lot of audiophiles with disposable incomes grew up listening to the Living Stereo vinyl releases and with poor pressings and mediocre turntables of yore, hearing them reissued anew in three channel recordings (something impossible to attain in the 60's), what's not to like?

Legendary conductors.......Legendary performances......by dead composers and now, dead conductors make for a powerful brew.

Even more ironic (but hardly surprising) The piano which tinkled As Time Goes By in Casablanca just sold at auction for $3.4 million...........and the cost of having it converted into a player piano tinkling As Time Goes By........another $3.4 mil.......just kidding!

In the same vein, the Cowardly Lion costume from the Wizard of Oz just fetched over $3 million. For that kind of gelt I hope when you pull the tail it plays Over The Rainbow.........;-)

As one with a soft spot for multiple incarnations of both the Living Stereo (especially with Reiner) and Living Presence recordings, I plead guilty as charged, even though the sarcasm of your last paragraph rings true and makes some very good points! ;-)

I think one thing I like so much about these recordings is the extremely competent use of a minimalist microphone set-up. For the most part, we just don't get this kind of holistic SQ today, even though the elements you mention have certainly all advanced since the late 50's and early 60's.

Went to the extend of getting that third channel (i.e.: centre channel) just to enjoy quite a lot of 3 channels music. What a pleasure to just have more than 2 front speakers playing back all these gems.

Should you fail to distinguish the difference of the music produced by the original Living Stereo SACD and the AP reissue then good for you. Just get the original.

Have just ordered the original, whilst I can easily hear the difference ,not prepared to pay the rip-off price

A wise man once said. . .

"A rip-off is in the ear of the beholder."

Me? I'm happy with 24/96 (even 24/48 in some cases!). But there are so many factors beyond that, that go into the production of a well engineered recording. . .

I was able to get my copy for $18 delivered (the AP version, that is) and the vendor not only provided a plastic cover for the disc but also sent me a sealed RBCD for free.

Lovely performance and AP did a masterful job easily exceeding the original SACD pressing.
