This release has gotten positive reviews pretty much across the board and deservedly so.
Countertenor Lawrence Zazzo is in fine form. Some here might be familiar with his recordings with René Jacobs, such as Alessandro Scarlatti: Griselda - René Jacobs. On this recording, he receives excellent support from David Bates and La Nuova Musica, whose horn players deserve special mention. Harmonia Mundi's multichannel recording is very good.
Another special part of this SACD is the program itself. It is not just one of those greatest hits of baroque opera. It is well thought out and offers a diverse selection of arias, which include the beautiful but relatively rare works of Bononcini and Ariosti. They along with Handel formed the "Royal Trio" of composers who worked for the Royal Academy in London during the 1720s. Recommended!
