A beautiful and enlightening journey of violin music through 17th century Germany. If you're a fan of Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin, then this disc is definitely worth a listen. Uta Pape gives delightful performances of these various works. I love the interplay of the violin with the theorbe, violoncello, and cembalo in the works by Walther and Westhoff. Her performances of the 2 solo works (Westhoff and Bach) compare favorably with any I've heard.
Excellent recording by Ars Produktion, whose CD booklet includes a very good discussion of the development of violin technique and music during this period.
