Sad news. The founder of Chandos records died after a short illness on 17 April.
We have many wonderful recordings here (and elsewhere) to be thankful for his efforts over many years.
RIP.

I've a vast collection of Chandos recordings. Their heydays of the 80s were the best, who could forget the Oslo/Tschaikowsky/Jasons series? Having defected to EMI, where is the Oslo Phil now?

Yes indeed, Brian. Rest in Peace. You were responsible for some wonderful recordings. As already mentioned the Mariss Jansons/Oslo Phil./Tchaikovsky deserved all the acclaim they received from numerous quarters and who can forget the recordings made by the late Richard Hickox - many of them classics.
Ralph will no doubt carry on the excellent work - and, hopefully, keep releasing the SACDs.

Thanks for the link, interesting to read although a few years old. I too have a lot of Chandos recordings,a few LPs more SACDs but even more 24/96 downloads. Sometimes when I have listened to a Chandos 24/96 recording as download I ask myself do we really need higher sampling rates, when 24/96 recordings can sound as excellent as they most often do from Chandos? I listened to their excellent recent Sibelius violin concerto recording from Bergen with Jennifer Pike last night and it is very nice indeed both performance wise and as a recording. Very natural with lots of bloom and a very lifelike balance. And I equally enjoyed Gardner's take on Sibelius's third. Also very good imo. I have also just bought but unfortunately not yet been able to download succcessfully the 2nd installment in their Janacek series.
