It is my opinion that e-bay finds the market value for most items.
I have not sold there much recently, so don't know what the fees are. They seem to climb. So that is the downside.

One great feature of e-Bay is that you can look and see if any of the discs or players that you have, have sold recently. That way you have an idea of what the market is.

Just make sure you take the time to describe it properly, with lots of photos etc. Make sure you also check that it works, perferably by playing a few discs, both SACDs and CDs. There's nothing more tiresome than a listing like: "XXX Player for sale. Not sure if it works as was inherited." +1 photo taken with a mobile and the wrong way up. I've seen these so often, and the seller usually gets much less than the market value.

Sorry about your dad's death.

Thanks again to everyone for the continued good advice and thanks to Jackan for your thoughts. I am not to good at navigating these forums, but would like to get this information to Theresa in case she is not currently monitoring this board. I would appreciate if someone could alert her to this thread if possible or let me know how I might reach her to gauge any interest.

I don't know if Teresa is going to be a particularly good candidate for the player, being as she has complained of both poor health and solvency issues lately. However, this is her profile: DSD

Ya, I would contact her via her blog.

Just a caveat about e-Bay. There are many people on there who are looking for bargains and few want to pay a fair price. Before downloads and streaming when optical disc was king, second-hand disc player prices could be fairly accurately predicted from a graph based on age and condition.

Your Dad as an audiophile would probably have kept his player in mint condition and if you have the original box and packaging and all the accessories and documents then a 5 year old machine would have fetched a price of 42% of new. [other e.g. ex-dem @ 80%; 2 yr old @ 70%]

Now that optical disc is waning prices are less predictable, there is less of a market and few will pay the price even on top end gear. As an example an ex-dem 18 month old Puccini player listed at £12k sold for £4500 after no interest was shown in an open auction starting at £5k.

e-Bay's advantage over Audiogon in my experience is that transactions are usually very quick but alas not always painless. Try not to be too ambitious on pricing although recognise also that you are not a charity organisation. There are too many people around there who would happily rob a beggar

Even 'though Teresa is a familiar and trusted friend and colleague she is entitled to privacy on such matters and we really should not be 'gossiping' on here.

I don't think it's gossip...she's been open about these things here (and frequently on her blog). Frankly, the suggestion that she should be contacted about buying a $2,600 player struck me as less appropriate.
