How can we be sure that the Living Stereo SACD were DSD masters.

"Newton also noted that, during the remastering process, the signal path was kept as short as possible. A Studer Aria analog tape recorder was connected with "premium" Siltech cables directly to dCS converters that encoded the signals to SACD's DSD data format."

These were stated in those early 2000s RCA Living Stereo SACD sleeve notes. The DSD copies were claimed to be essentially identical to the original analogue masters, in their original splendours. Grab them.

Does anybody has an idea whether the SACD and DSD downloads from the Living Stereo albums from Acoustic Sounds are different masterings. AS sells some Living Stereo album und their Analogue Production label. Are those different than the one sold some years ago by RCA direct.

I haven't checked which albums they are offering as DSD downloads, but Acoustic Sounds did new transfers for their Analogue Productions LP and SACD series.

How can we be sure that the Living Stereo SACD were DSD masters. A lot of SACD's are the result of PCM copies from Analogue; manipulated/edited in the PCM domain (hopefully in DXD, but usually in lower Hz) and then converted to DSD. I am all for more transparency in the process from source to endfiles.

It depends only on how cynical you are about John Newton's explanation of how he re-mastered these recordings. I believe him absolutely that these are Pure DSD right through the chain. This is Sound Mirror we are talking about.
