I have just received my copy of the latest release from Jordi Savall on his Alia Vox label, Missa Salisburgensis. This is certainly a disc that demonstrates why stereo is not enough sometime. The Surround Sound recording allows you to hear the music in its true antiphonal form, with musicians and choir placed around you.

I think this is better than the version by Paul McCreesh on UMG, which I like, but is spoilt by the mix where I have to adjust the volume as it has been mixed in such a way that it becomes so much louder I just have to reduce it.

This disc is a great addition to my collection. Thank goodness Alia Vox continues to support the SACD format, long may they do so.

Thanks for the recommendation. I was debating whether to get this, because I'm not that fond of the Missa Salisburgensis. Maybe the Savall release will change my opinion of the work, which to me does not sound like Biber, even though it has come to be accepted as his composition.

It is hard to use the term recommendation, all I can say is that I really like this version, the surround sound is good and the sound levels are much better than the McCreesh version and I love the music which for me is performed really well. I am not an expert at all, I just know what I enjoy.
