I am looking forward to the latest Cala re releases,Only hope some of the other items Simon did for his own label also get released? There were at least half a dozen or so items..Note I visited the Cala website and these two items were not shown?.
Does anyone have any of these on redbook cd..?

does anyone know how they were recorded, - are these re-releases just spatialised and up-sampled discs or were they recorded in hi res and/or m/c?

This would appear to be a reissue of the original from 1993.

thanks s. and c., - this presumably means that the source was 16/44.1 pcm stereo. Have had enough disappointments with such sources e.g. the capriccio re-issues, so will give 'em a miss unless they turn up in the e-bargain bin. B

Mostly I agree with you - particularly the Capriccio re-issues, with the exception of one and that is the Kocis Bartok concertos. That performance is great and the sound is servicable if not of the quality to which we have become accustomed. It is far better than that accorded Capriccio's Dvorak and Weber Overtures discs for example. So I will buy it if someone like Edvin can tell us the sound is, say: "acceptable if not wonderful" or "good enough to not get in the way of enjoying the music"

Don't be too hasty Brenda. This is nothing like the Capriccio reissues nor the Membrans.
The original CD was a very good recording and this SACD sounds excellent. The (created) MC is quite discreet and only improves the overall spaciousness. Review coming shortly.

I only wish Cala would now go back over their Stokowski stereo Phase 4 recordings and release them on SACD.
