FJH wrote the C and D for a cellist of moderate talents, royalty? For that reason, it is 'accessible' to cello students who are 'just getting the hang of the thing' and it can be performed, as with many concertos, with piano instead of orchestra. That must be rather humiliating to orchestras, to be so easily replaced by a piano, no?

This is a warm, enjoyable recording, and does indeed put a smile on the face -- especially of cello students remembering their first Big recital piece.
