Hi everyone,

Due to the fact it's been posted here numerous times, I've been taking to heart the issue of both SACD and DVD-A being dead formats before they ever came close to reaching their full potential. Therefore, I've been like a kid in a candy store seeking out must-have and out-of-print titles in a very short amount of time before they truly are gone for good.

My latest purchases include a sealed 2001 DVD-A of George Benson's "Breezin'" ($25) as well as SACD's of "Gratitude" ($10), and "Alive in 75" ($14) by Earth Wind & Fire. I also grabbed Seal's 3-Disc Best Of DVD-A ($20), Dire Straits "Brothers In Arms" DVD-A ($12) Herbie Hancock's "Head Hunters" SACD ($8), Bonnie Raitt's "Nick Of Time" DVD-A ($12) and both Eric Clapton's SACD "461 Ocean Boulevard" ($8) and "Back Home" DVD-A ($11)

My next purchase(s) will include SACD's for Roxy Music' "Avalon", Carole King's "Tapestry", Joe Satriani's "Strange Beautiful Music", The Isley Brothers "3+3" and DVD-A's for Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" and Steely Dan's "Gaucho"

What sonic gems have you last added to your collection?

Cheers,
Dan

!S

My collection so far is /library/3879

my wishlist so far is : /wishlist/3879

Im new to sacd nad I find it sad that there isn't more titles available in pop/rock section. But perhaps sacd was invented for classical music alone.

I have no dvd a's

Does anybody know if there is a page like this for for dvd audio alone?? I find this page here very helpful.

My last purchases were:

DVD-Audio
Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive (24/96 DVD-A)
Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet (24/96 DVD-A)

SACD
Joe Satriani - Strange Beautiful Music (5.1)
Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic (5.1)
Elton John - Honky Chateau (5.1)

Sweet Emotion in 5.1 is amazing, absolutely amazing.

I will recommend you don't waste time with that Satriani disc though, and by wsting time I mean don't waste time until you pick it up because it's awesome. The surround mix is enveloping without being gimmicky or a distraction. The last track is my favourite, with what seems like four separate guitar parts at the end from all corners of the room. A great disc, I wish he'd go back and do 5.1 versions of Blue Dream and The Extremist.

Not much needs to be said about Elton John - all his SACD's are stunning.

The Frampton DVD-A is very pleasant and I went with the DVD-A instead of the SACD because of the less than favourable reviews here. I've never heard "Do You Feel Like We Do" osund so good.

There is a list of DVD-A discs somewhere around here.

EDIT - here it is - http://www.quadraphonicquad.com/dvdalist.htm

Just received James Taylor's "Flag" on Hybrid SACD from Acoustic Sounds. I placed the order after I realized this particular SACD is OOP and Acoustic Sounds still has limited stock. Get it FAST!

In any case, I hope everyone is buying their SACDs/DVD-As NEW from retailers and not USED or on eBay (if the discs are still in print/available). We should REWARD the industry for supporting these formats and PUNISH them when they do not (e.g., only buy CDs USED). We speak with our wallets.

IMO,
Josh

What a load of rubbish.
If I buy a an sacd I dont like for whatever reason I am prepared to sell it on ebay cheaply making a loss and hopefully encouraging someone to widen their sacd library..I spoke with my wallet when I bought it but I dont want anyone buying something they dont want and getting stuck with it because of some mistaken belief that it will help the industry.Get real. The only way to get most of the stuff I want is on ebay or amazon.
Also note that if it wasnt for ebayers selling off cheaply you would get the typical over pricing by official retailers. This could deter people already complaining about the perceived higher prices for sacd against cd.Dave

Peder af Ugglas - Beyond (hasn't arrived yet. I like Autumn Shuffle)
Kitaro - Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai (I like the first half - nice use of surround)
Nektar - Journey To The Center of The Eye (I like some "krautrock" this one.. eh, I guess you had to be there)
