I've heard this is very close to release... Once again the Fischer fanboy must say this will probably kick my Klemperer, Jochum, and Bohm down a notch--- not that I'd ever want to be without them.

I can hardly wait. I'm very glad that Ivan Fischer is as young as he is-- there's lots more to explore.

How young he is or may be is called relativity. But we love him none-the-less.

What you say is true--- however he is still only 58. Considerably younger than Mick Jagger. On the other hand, he's a bit older than Alan Gilbert. :)

Wow! Talk about great reviews. I'm expecting mine shortly. It seems that once again Fischer and his band of merry music makers have found something new in music we thought we knew.

And Castor: A very enlightening review as well!

Thanks for sharing the good news about this recording. Mr. Fischer's ability to find new things in great but familiar music is why I'm looking forward to hearing him conduct the Budapest Festival Orchestra in Beethoven's 6th and 9th Symphonies on a Sunday afternoon in New York next March, and why more Beethoven SACDs from them would surely be a worthwhile effort and investment for Channel Classics.

Yes, thanks for sharing. So the Guardian reviewer wants to know if this is the start of a cycle. Well, Jared? (although we know from before that cycles are not Mr. Fischer's thing).

I know there is another Brahms on the schedule, but I have not discussed this with Ivan about all 4. Will get back to you on this. We are indeed proud about this review. The BFO and Ivan can indeed still find inspiration in the standard workhorse pieces!

The failure of G********e to elect Mahler 4 as disc of the year is nothing short of an outrage against all decent music loving folk. Why I continue supporting that journal is beyond my comprehension. Maybe I should stop.

Got mine! Amazing performance, fabulous recording! Read Castor's review.

I can only say that once again Ivan Fischer has brought new light to music I have known for years. Klemperer, Jochum, Boehm sets in my rack will have to make room for this number 1.

Don't hesitate. This release isn't getting the buzz that his Mahler discs did---Brahms doesn't seem to get as much interest as he used to--- but it's every bit as good. Fabulous stuff.

I'll go sit down now......

Brahms when asked for his autograph by the wife of Johann Strauss, Jr. jotted down the opening bars of the "On the Beautiful Blue Danube", under which he wrote, "Leider nicht von Johannes Brahms" ("alas, not by Johannes Brahms").
