What an incredibly stupid comment.

This isn't the first time I've seen a needlessly nasty and totally uncalled-for comment from you. So, fer krissake, STOP.

Here is the real reason I find BIS SACDs less than ideal.

Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn what you think, nor do most of the other members here.

A lot of things in life are less than ideal. Our playback systems and the condition of our ears aren't perfect either.

But BIS's less than ideal SACDs sound significantly better than CDs, and that is the most important.

No, he doesn't, but I'm sure that if he did, his reaction would be only more positive. He's told me that he's "dying" to hear some of those discs on my system.

You probably have some really nice equipment, so I feel sure your friend would be well and truly impressed when he hears an SACD on it.

I have a really nice player and amplifier, but decidedly average speakers. I remember just over a year ago, inviting a couple of neighbours in for a little drink. I played quite a few different discs, mainly hi-res stuff. They were speechless! They told me that they had never heard anything as impressive as that before. It was very nice of them, and good to have such an appreciative audience.

As I'm getting older, I'm appreciating orchestral music more and more. I also ask myself lately, how much of this appreciation may be due to hi-res formats - and a good player. I have very little technical knowledge, and even less musical, instead just interpreting what my ears pick up. It's strange - or perhaps not(?), that complex orchestral music played on a poor system can really hamper the appreciation of the music, where a lot of the sounds become just "mushy" and ill-defined.

It'll be great to hear what your friend says about your music and set-up.

By the way, at least to keep in context with your original post, I bought a couple of months ago my very first BIS SACD. It's the Peer Gynt Suites. I've bought a lot of new SACDs over the last couple of months, but haven't quite got around to listening to some properly yet. I feel sure that an awful lot of effort has gone in to the recording of this particular disc, and am confident that I'll like this beautiful piece of music, a piece that I've known for quite a few decades. Apologies to Richard (if you happen to be reading this), that this is my first SACD of yours, but until a couple of years ago I'd neither heard of you or BIS.

Were you not the one who said "how entirely unjustified, uncalled-for, and just plain wrong the ceaseless criticisms leveled against Robert and BIS were" First listening opinions and likes and dislikes can not be right or wrong. Many of us remain unimpressed with BIS's recording techniques whither they are done DSD or PCM. There are many great SACDs from Channel Classics, BSO, PentaTone, Telarc and others that actually reveal what the SACD format is capable of.
