I found a DTS 5.1 file of the song The Sound of Silence
and was made by the Original Master Recording
and is very well done .. is it a future SACD 5.1 surround ??

I doubt that very much. A quick Google search shows that the creator of the file is a 21 year old from Brazil who shares his own DTS mixes of popular hits on the net.

The question in my mind is "Will the SACDs be in quad, or just a stereo mix down of the quad master tapes? And if so, will they be discrete, or just a re-record of the SQ encoded tapes?

From all preliminary reports, AP will be using the original quadriphonic 4 channel master tapes and they will be released in 4.0, much like MoFi's 4.0 SACDs of Vox material from the same period. There has been NO official announcements, as yet, but Michi, one of our fellow SA~CDnet posters, has assured us that there will be quite a few surprises ....... be patient, as AP has not even released all the Impulse and Blue Note SACDs which were announced 2 years ago and then then there will be the Verve Jazz SACDs upcoming, as well (they will be in either stereo or mono).

And those tapes should be in pristine condition as they probably haven't been played since the 70's and rest assured that AP will only select the cream of the crop as their quality control is exemplary.

I'm wondering, but why the negativity towards the Audio Fidelity gold CDs...

Whilst I generally LOVE most of the AF (and DCC) remasters for their warmth and luscious valve tones (which I know is a bit controversial in audiophile circles - many prefer the cleaner sound such as heard on XRCDs, etc) I have to say I am not a fan of the AF Sounds Of Silence CD compared to the Vic Anesini remixes.

Anesini, to my ears, has been extremely faithful to the original mixes, and the albums have been mastered very tastefully with no additional compression that I can hear. The EQ is spot on too, not over-bright. They just sound so much cleaner with less distortion, I guess as a result of removing that extra generation of the 60s analogue mix-down. If you listen to the vocals on the original 60s' mix (i.e. on the AF version) there's a lot of harshness on the esses. The Anesini mixed vocals are cleaner and clearer. The reverbs are less muddy too. I almost always prefer vintage mixes and masters (or audiophile label remasters) to other versions (The Doors catalogue being a classic example, Genesis being an even worse example), but not this time.

Little Nemo, I have posted this tidbit of info previously on this forum but to reiterate, Roy Halle, who was the original recording engineer for S&G had frequented my audio salon in Scarsdale, NY and used to tell the proprietor that the S&G master tapes were not in the best of shape.....splices, overdubbings, etc.
I would think that due to the popularity of the duo, those master tapes probably received more usage than a lot of other artists of the period. I would think that a four~channel quad master was struck from those tapes back in the early seventies and should be in pristine condition since the QUAD Lps were not exactly selling like hotcakes. It is supposedly these masters which Analogue Productions will be using for their Quad SACD replication. I seriously doubt that if they are in any way subpar, that AP would be re~releasing them, again.

Since the mixes were so dense, I would think that the four channel S&G SACDs will allow Roy Halle's original vision to breathe more...... especially in high resolution.

Again, only time will tell!

Analogue Productions is supposed to be doing the QUAD SACD Simon and Garfunkel reissues but there has been NO formal announcement.

IMO, SONY should've offered the reissue on ONE blu~ray disc with a 5.1 surround/stereo remix of the original album and released the DVD portion in hi~def 1080p/i blu~ray.

Reissuing a 16 bit RBCD and a 480p DVD in this day and age of Universal Players is another SONY travesty.

BTW, I believe they're reissuing all the S & G albums in this gatefold format.....albeit 16 bit/480p DVD{???????}.
