Silverman is listed by Steinway as an official "Steinway artist" and owns both a New York and a Hamburg specimen, Model, Year and Number of the beast are not specified.

I searched the IsoMike pdf booklet for "Steinway" and got "...the IsoMike system was hovering above us all at about twelve feet and roughly twenty feet away from the Steinway Grand". If you want to replicate the setup at home, you'll need a chair on a rope and a high ceiling....

PS: If you act quickly, Ray Kimber is offering a 35% discount to sa-cd.net members, so its more like $16.50 per disc. Cf The Official IsoMike thread.

Does he use a second rig for the rear channels? Most of the IsoMike setups that I have seen use just two mics.

Looks like that is a reduced price to whomever. Judging from the checkout desk(?) on the Kimber site.

Yes except tell me you made the order at ray@kimber.com and I will get you a low serial number and you can tell me your favorite numbers or unlucky numbers and I will also try to accomodate that request for SA-CDers And I will inscribe the serial numbered booklet for you on request

It is recorded in 4-channel. The stereo tracks are just the front channels, there is no mixing (or compression or limiting or EQ)

It is a 9' Steinway Model D, I will get the serial number of the piano. It is about 4 years old, a number of piano faculty travelled to NY to select this piano.

Thanks for the information. I just ordered a set! I was pleased to see that you used DPA 4006 microphones (or B&K 4006 back when I was a recording engineer)--nothing beats them for accurately recording a piano. I was also pleased to see such a reasonable shipping fee!

Thanks, I'll order it in three weeks.

Regards.
