Brilliant performance of Belshazzar, of course. No applause at the end. I didn´t hear Sir Colin grunt, but maybe my hearing is below par due to a cold. What a bargain! Can we please have some more Tippett from these forces.

Is this the same performance of Walton's 1st previously issued?

It is.

Ah, but the Solti recording of the oratorio, engineered by Decca's Lock, is still the performance to beat. Solti really makes this piece memorable. Only on RBCD.

I would go with the Previn on EMI myself. It was released on DVD-A in four channel as well, though that is probably a bit expensive to acquire now. I look forward to hearing this new release.

Me too. I wish Acoustic Sounds would do an SACD run of the best British RCA's. I will email them....

I was just about to post that I imprinted on the old Westminster LP with Noble/Boult/LPO when I saw your post. I googled the DVD-A and found the cover looked familiar and, lo and behold, it was already in my collection but still sealed! Next weekend, for sure.

I have that Previn DVD-Audio and it is quite good. I would say as good as Solti. I had forgotten it was on shelf... I have a complete set of the EMI DVD-Audio discs, and all are quite good.

Acoustic Sounds emailed back and said they were "uncertain" at this point.

Hi. Yep, this sounds about right. I, also, emailed them last year suggesting they take a look at British RCA and the related Reader's Digest recordings.

They responded that they were busy with their Jazz right now but might take a look later.

Seems like they aren't really interested in classical.

Then why did they bother to tease us with 'The Power of the Orchestra', I wonder?

Frustrating.

PS the Previn Belshazzar is a straight Bishop/Parker EMI, however. It is, indeed, wondrous. I was at the live concert at the Festival Hall that they were doing at the time. It turned out to be the same day that the Entebbe hostages were released by commando raid in Uganda. Talk about historic congruence...

The house collapsed at the end. Plus WW himself was there in the flesh to congratulate Previn and the LSO. Coo, they don't make concerts like that anymore!
