Discussion: Ravel: Retrospection - Dejan Lazic

I know this has been out forever, but I stumbled across it on Amazon and listened to some segments. Very interesing, I thought. Remarks and reviews show some polarization of thought. Some say it's too indidual. Others say it's great. I got it today.

I have this music by many fine musicians, and I have a sense of what it's "supposed" to sound like. This is a different take on things. As with Thibaudet, Lazic sounds at times like he's improvising. There are portions that suggest a jazz imfluence. There are portions which show a large, dramatic Lizst-like feeling. I'm reminded of Jacques Loussier's jazz interpretation in the sense that I'm hearing "interpretation". So... I love it. It's different, but I'm going to enjoy it for years to come. Thanks, Dejan. Absolutely fabulous recording by Jared Sacks.
