On today's count, I've got 17 recordings of Four Last Songs. Gundula Janowitz with Karajan is my all time favourite http://www.amazon.co.uk/Strauss-R-Verkl%C3%A4rung-Metamorphosen-letzte/dp/B000001GQF/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322210322&sr=8-1 that has to be one of my favorite CDs as a whole - Metamorphosen here is just stunning and Gundula is at her most lyrical, floating effortlessly above the orchestra and Karajan is in his natural element. This Schwarzkopf would probably be my second best, my only problem is her way with words (a native German speaker explained it to me once that she's got a strong Viennese accent apparently). Two recordings of FLS I refuse to keep on the shelf are Kiri Te Kanawa with Solti (two reasons - 1. Kiri, 2. Solti) and Fleming with Eschenbach. I am yet to hear Fleming's more recent recording with Thielemann, she might have improved in the meantime, her Marschalin on Blu Ray (Thielemann again) was rather good.
