A reliable french classical music guide from the 1990s lists his 8th and 9th (released on a 2CD set at the time) as reference quality.
But it's good to read a contemporary review. Today, many people tend to glorify recordings from the "golden age".

If EMI Japan wants to release a Bruckner 9 in SACD, there's Giulini's mid-seventies recording with Chicago SO.

Ah well, Gramophone - if they say so, it *must* of course be true. For what it's worth, Benjamin-Gunnar Cohrs, conductor and Bruckner scholar, recently listed the Schuricht among the three, in his view, "most successful" recordings of the first three movements of the Ninth.
