Does anybody know which way the wind (sic: and other sections) are blowing in WC?

Oh dear! Seems nobody knows and nobody cares but what a sad loss if such a great orchestra has abandoned SACD

I was a frequent and enthusiastic attendee of the CSO in the Barenboim era, so part of me cares very much.

On the other hand...they only released a few discs, and seemed to suffer particularly from that tendency of orchestra labels to release endless Bruckner/Mahler releases (not to complain excessively - I love both composers, but I probably have 2 or 3 copies of each symphony on SACD and 10 cycles on RBCD already). The most notable discs were two you seemed to hate...the Verdi Requiem and CSO Brass.

This isn't just a CSO Resound problem admittedly. And these discs are produced in part to sell during intermission and at the (fantastic) CSO store, which is why it makes sense to produce works they're playing regularly. But I question the value to the SACD market.

If the Otello really happens it could be very exciting.

I think the biggest issue they've been dealing with over the last couple of years is the fact that (naturally) they want their releases to feature the music director, yet Muti has suffered from serious health problems which have forced him to cancel most of his appearances each and every year.

Release of Otello has been announced for September of this year.

In case folks here didn't hear, the legendary trumpet virtuoso Adolph Herseth died last week at age 91.

Not sure what you point is Hiredfox.

The press release says "Available for digital download on September 3 and in CD and SACD formats at retail outlets beginning September 24".

Looks like an SACD release announcement to me.
