No, because I thought your commentary was addressing the blu-ray audio-only standard, which is the subject of this thread.

And since when does any thread on this forum stay on track?

NEVER!

(Think of it as Poetic license or licentiousness)

Well, now that we're clear on that...

And to drive a point further, do you realize how many SACDs are derived from LIVE performances......so SACD can be though of as hi~rez audio with out the hi~rez video.....

(I know I'm pushing it.............)

As an aside: The only real added value for an audio only BR format is for MDG to promote their 2+2+2 recording and presentation format. Instead of double using the mid and Bas channel as on SACD issues, they now could use the front (2) + surround (2) + rear (2) channels. So they would use 6.o (of the 7 available on BR) instead of 5.1. In this way 2+2+2 could coexist with 5.1, without having the users to switch loudspeakers and cables.

Still the control options through the remote have to be fixed. Standard video is easier to control than the so called BR-A discs.

On November 19th, Warner music is releasing a 124 minute Concert in Blu~ray audio (LPCM 2.0 48/24/DTS Master Audio 5.1 48/24) of the Concert Film of Led Zeppelin's legendary 2007 reunion at the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert at London's 02 Arena.

It will also be available separately as a BD video, a DVD and 2 RBCDs of the entire concert.

Jason Bonham, son of the late John Bonham is substituting on drums.

Not sure where you've been looking but BD offers plenty of multichannel options including Dolby Digital, DD Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS 5.1, DTS-HD, DTS-HD Master Audio and more. Only DSD and DST are sadly lacking from the list of optional audio formats. Note that unlike earlier Dolby and DTS technologies the new formats support discrete multichannel audio and lossless compression.

I've been looking at a few BD players and cannot find six analog outputs on the back, therefore, none would fit in my system (no PCM processors). PCM elves work well for the "picture show" uses, not in my audio system. Regards.

Sticking my nose into this conversation with trepidation, the Oppo BDP-95 has 7.1 analog outputs. Is that too many?

The current OPPO BDP~93 and 95 (the latter with beefed up analogue outputs) will do the trick and SACD via HDMI via the 93 is pretty darn amazing for its $499 price tag. My Nuforce Special Edition BDP~83 also has the requisite 7.1 beefed up (meaning better than stock) analogue outputs, as well.

I tremble at the thought of a $1000 BD/CD/SACD/DVD/and more player after my Denon experiences. IMHO the design/manufacture of these universal players are lacking in reliability areas. "Poking around" the innards of a few and sampling a few CD's seems to indicate a marginal system.

My knowledge/search for a BD player was limited to my son's player (panny) and big box retailers.

It would be nice to get back to the basic idea for SACD, MCH DSD. All this new stuff is "tricked up" to "outshine" DSD, IMHO. Could this have anything to do with lawyers and "bean counters".

I'm looking for an SACD player with six discrete analog channels and no copyright badges covering the front panel, including Dooby Dolby. GRIN. Just some basics that will spin Pentatone RQR's (Nirvana). Regards.
