This recording is playing as I type, on Canadian Broadcasting Corp. / Radio Two, and even on the attenuated wings of FM radio, IT'S BRILLIANT! My copy is on order, and my anticipation is intense.

Well, based on my experience, you are on the way to becoming a devoted follower! Try Michael Kanka's Haydn Cello concerto! I also like Csaba's Brahms sonatas very much. Praga seems to be as high in quality as PentaTone.

I have had the unmitigated pleasure of hearing Kanka et alia play live for our local ScotiaFestival (that's NOVA Scotia, in Canada), and chatting with him briefly. He looks like an amorous lover as he plays, and always seems to be enjoying a private joke. Other than his 1970s-style pompador of red hair, he is free of mannerisms. The Prazakova enjoy a seamless ensemble, but which is always ready, it seems, to include others (note the Octet). They played their half of the Mendelssohn Octet here, together with the festival Supernova Quartet, which includes an old friend of the family, Denise Djokic (whom I'd love to have on SACD, but she kicked the traces at Sony...).

The Haydn Cello Concerti have been on my wishlist for some months now, and I have used your note as an excuse to finally order them. My wife has played the C major, but she now prefers to listen, due to a shoulder problem.

My bank balance will be very disappointed! :-)
