What a fine survey this is turning out to be. More fine seductively smooth performances from Ola Rudner that charm from outset. Good to have a serious alternative set to Litton; can't wait to see what he makes of Lobgesang.

Good to have your thoughts John. Am looking forward to this release as I enjoyed the disc of 4 & 5 very much. Sadly, there are currently no plans to record a S#1 to finish the series off, but S#2 will be on its way soon.

That's good news and bad news in one sentence Paul. Wonder why the antipathy towards the First, it's not at all bad?

On my list of discs to buy, as well as some of their other recordings. Just waiting for the price to drop a few bucks.

Not sure why, John. I emailed with Ms Schumacher and she offered no explanation. However, I didn't detect any antipathy to the symphony itself, so why don't you drop her a line @ars and maybe between us we can persuade her to think about #1? I'll write to her again, too.

And I agree, #1 is neither all that bad nor even bad at all. I guess the coupling is an issue, but 3 or 4 of the overtures would do just fine. Better still, one of the two double piano ctos.

SACDs should carry a health warning; "Prices can go up depending upon market conditions but rarely go down"

aka " we know you are all spoilt rich kids so we're gonna suck you dry"
