This recording, entitled “Romance Oubliée,” is an absolute marvel in which the immense talent of violist Tabea Zimmermann is displayed in full and with serenity. “Thanks to this album, I have realized a dream I have caressed for a long time: assemble numerous and ravishing miniatures, for the most part romantic and unknown, which bring out the melancholic facets of the viola,” confides the artist in the booklet accompanying the SACD. The pieces chosen are thus: “Six Album Pages” Op. 39 by Hans Sitt (1850-1922), “Elegy” Op. 44 by Alexander Glazounov (1865-1936), “Two Pieces for Viola” by Louis Vierne (1870-1937), “Elegy” Op. 30 by Henri Vieuxtemps (1820-1881), “Reverie” by Henryk Wieniawski (1835-1880), “Romance Oubliée” [“Forgotten Romance”] S. 527 by Franz Liszt (1811-1886), “Romance and Aucassin & Nicolette” by Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962), and to finish “Adagio” by Zoltan Kodaly (1882-1967). Let us also salute the perfect osmosis between the pianist Thomas Hoppe and Tabea Zimmermann, as well as the warm and precise sound recording of this illuminating SACD, which will guide for a long time to come music lovers who are curious to discover new musical horizons.
