Performance:   Sonics:
Lazic's Ravel is, at times, most agreeable. At other times, it can sound like a cross between late Beethoven and Tchaikovsky ... I find it often lacking in colour or mystery or dynamics (volume). If anything, I find his Ravel too clear, too distinct, too etude-ish, too de-constructed, and lacking what I might term a natural impressionistic blurring of sounds / imagery. Lazic also tends to overweight the bass, unnecessarily so, and he adds stress / accents in odd places (the de-construction). Inbetween the start-stop ride, there are moments of bliss. Others might enjoy the performance, but it was not my musical cup of tea.

Performance: 3.5 stars
Sound: 4 stars (stereo). The sound is extremely clean, but rather harsh, and somehow doesn't quite achieve a natural piano realism.
Superjewel box: Yes - with smart packaging

Top marks for excellent playing and beautifull clear recording/ Lazic has great competition on CD for these works but no sacds at the moment and this would certainly be competitive.Lack of information on this site about contents so here goes. 1 Prelude 1913/2 Menuet (haydn) 3 Pavane pour un infante defuncte 4/6 Sonatine 7/12 Le Tomeau de Couperin 13/20 Valse Nobles et sent 21 A la Maniere Chabrier 22 same Borodin and 23 Prelude 1913...total time 63.08/ so you get a good variety.half decent liner notes. No complaints about Channel Classics from me....Dave
