| Had this only a day and it was cheap..I am a succer for variations....initial impressions when starting with Paganini Variations were a bit mixed..Seemed as though engineer was too frightened to put the mikes close up...recent DGG items Lang Lang etc were excellent,,,this by comparison seemed slightly smaller grand piano.distanced a few yards back . This is is not a majestic version but is certainly above average...all the light and darkness of these variations dont come out...Sonics,,, Bit better than redbook CD but not startling....Then it seems to get better and the last variations Schumann are excellent with superb sonics playing and tone......Not a DSD recording and resolution not stated on the notes of the 2004 recording...standard CD case,,,,, worth the money at jpc price If you want these works.Dave
