MR Tyner is one of my favorite pianist since his work with John Coltrane! I have 3 sacd from (Telarc) and now this one from (Chesky).I have many others sacd from cheeky too and i must admit that i was a bit disappointed with their technology. But i've done many changes in my hi-fi system since (new speakers, new sacd player, new cables...),and i really enjoy their natural sound now! With Chesky records,it's all about natural! No compressors,no multi tracking, no large mixing consoles, only one microphone for the quartet, and yes,it sounds good! You just have to turn the volume up because it's lower than the average.
The piano and saxophone have a perfect tone with all the nuances, the ride cymbal shines the sound is clear. The bass has punch and goes deep.
They play mostly standards plus compositions from Tyner, Henderson and Carter.Mid tempos and ballads.Special praise for Monk's standard "ask me now",beautifully played by Tyner and Henderson!
If you like jazz and natural and detailed sound, check this one!

This Jazz album introduced me to McCoy Tyner. I now own a number others including both sacds and rbcds. He is one of of my favourite jazz pianists. On this one we have Joe Henderson on sax, Ron Carter on bass and Al Foster playing the drums. Compositions by MCoy Tyner, Ron carter, Joe Henderson and others are classical jazz compositions by Monk and others. Excellent classical jazz with more recent compositions played by some of the best jazz artists at the moment.
Sound quality is excellent. In MC it is one of the best recordings I have ever heard you really feel the musicians precisely. Precision, texture of the sound of each instrument. It is one of my top 5 jazz recordings in terms of quality of sound.
