Beethoven's Symphony N°2 in D major Op.36 was first performed in the Austrian capital, Vienna, in April 1803, and was described by the contemporary press as "a singular work, collosal, of a depth, force and artistic learnedness (rare nowadays), of deliberately difficult execution like no other symphony we know. It must be listened to once and again before the listener can discover the fine points in the whole and the whole in the fine points - not to mention that one must first get somewhat used to this work so rich in detail." Symphony N° 7 in A major Op.92 was composed four years after the Sixth. Years during which were written the Trio "Archiduc", the Concerto for Piano N°5 "Emperor", the Sonata "Adieux". With this latest delivery of a towering complete works, conductor Osmo Vanska outdoes all earlier versions with his ideal placing of insturments, his volumes and his coloring. In additon, such dynamic mastery has not been heard since Karajan. Vanska also gives us a contemporary benchmark to which music lovers and audiophiles will return often with pleasure, for the sound recording is tops and puts perfect spatial direction into the musical discourse while respecting the instruments' tones.

One of the best SACD recording out there. This can really demonstrate the advantage of using DSD as the recording format.
