Performance:   Sonics:
Glinka (1804-1857) and Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) are on the menu of this SACD, with for the former, the Great Sextet for Piano and String Quintet in E flat major in three movements, dating from 1823, the Divertimento on the Themes of Bellini’s “La Sonnambula” for piano, the Quartet for Strings and Double Bass; and for the later, the String Quartet N°1 in D major Op.11 dating from 1871. “Marginal in his production,” states Jean-Alexandre Ménétrier, “the six chamber music works that Tchaikovsky left us have nonetheless played an essential role in the birth of chamber music in Russia.” Accompanied by Lukas Klansky on the piano and Pavel Nejtek on the double bass, the Prazak Quartet restores these scores – today little known – to their rightful stature. With an approach which is sensitive, poetic and deeply inspired, their playing echoes a world gone by in which passion was not an empty word. In a sound recording that is exemplary in its tonal beauty, this SACD will long remain a miracle of musical subtlety.
