Performance:   Sonics:
Great disc from a musical point of view. Sonics are not as good as expected. It seems that Blue Note is not able to dig out as much information from the master tapes as e.g. is the case with Analog Productions. Even if the master tape was not top quality this disc should have sounded better. There seems to be slight problems with other Blue Note SACDs too.

This SACD is an improvement over the very good sounding CD Blue Note put out in the mid/late 90s. Everything sounds clearer and more lifelike. I will agree with the reviewer below that there is too much high end on this SACD, but then again the same holds true for the CD versions and the 45 RPM LP version put out by Classic Records as well. This hybrid SACD IS definitely better than the CD versions out there. The CD layer is better and the SACD layer takes it a step or two further.

BTW-Blue Train has never been released on XRCD. To my knowledge no Blue Note titles have ever been released on XRCD.

I agree with other reviews. This disc is too bright and mechanical sounding. Even the cheap LP reissues flow more and are more involving. There is great detail but this recording deserves more. An insignificant update of the CD.
