Performance:   Sonics:
C. Ayado vcl &p, H. Miyano g, T. Sugimoto b, S. Morishita B3, Anointy Mass Choir, ewe 2000.
Chie Ayado, the Japanese Jazz Giant with that fabulous expressive dynamic voice sings standards of jazz and pop from the fantastic version of Work Song to Leaving on a Jet Plane. How can there reside such a great voice in such a tiny body? As always her interpretations are extraordinary and thrilling although accompanied mostly just by her own piano. Or, as in Day Tripper, by a bass solely. She makes every song her own, as if nobody ever had sung it before her versions do not remind of anybody. E. g. the Hammond B3 version of My Funny Valentine or the goose-pimples version of Danny Boy.
The sound is perfect, rich of colour, very good soundstage and imaging - Chie stands right in front of you, the choir is filling up your listening room and it seems you can count the singers, there is air for the instruments, plenty of dynamics and brilliance.
