The performances of Weber's Clarinet Quintet, solo fortepiano piece, and the Flute Trio are superb. I won't say any more about the performance because it is not the problem here. In the SACD stereo mode the balance for the quintet is good with a very slight volume favoring the left channel and the ... more

Hindemith Comparison Neschling/BIS vs Stern/Reference Recordings I bought directly from Reference Recording the "Miraculous Metamorphoses" SACD (which contains Hindemith's Metamorphosen Hindemith, Prokofiev, Bartok - Stern ). Since I already have Hindemith's Metamorphosen on a BIS SACD I thought it ... more

Dear VanOort, Are you aware that when listening to this SACD in Multi-channel mode, the out-of-balance heavily favors the left side due to the incorrect assignment of 3 of the 5 channels? First, I made sure that my analog output connectors were connected correctly, and they were. Then, after much analysis (the picture of the recording session in ... more

Mine was in 2 channel stereo only as well, even though the sticker on the cellophane says multi-channel and the back insert says multi-channel and on the SACD itself says multi-channel. There is no reason this should not be multi-channel as the recording was done in 9/3-4/2003 well after everyone was recording in multi-channel. I feel cheated!!! ... more

Dear tailspn, My intent was not to float erroneous information at all. I have been a Reference Recording lover (recordings done by Professor Johnson) for 28 years now and own almost all his classical music recordings. When I found out that Professor Johnson was not the engineer on this SACD it came as a total shock to me. I always thought Professor ... more

Does anyone know why is Professor Johnson not the sound engineer anymore on Reference Recording's SACD's. The SoundMirror SACDs I have heard are not as good as Professor Johnson engineered recordings. ... more

I find it interesting how this poorly reviewed SACD has suddenly gone way up in price, to over $140. Just a couple years ago this was selling for around $8 when it was still discontinued several years previously to that. What has happened? Have people suddenly realized that this is really a great recording and/or performance? ... more
