Sviatoslav Richter's recording of the Well-tempered Clavier is my favourite rendition … I prefer it to even that of Glenn Gould. So, this is not only a five-star performance, but amongst the very finest that exist, and the best that I know of. The merits of the performance are already well-known, so ... more
Paganini: Violin Concertos Nos. 1 & 4 - Henryk Szeryng        (8 of 9 found this review helpful)

Performance ----------------- I have many, many recordings of this violin showpiece, as it is a piece I studied when I was a young teen. My favourite recordings include a young Itzhak Perlman, the superbly brilliant (but short-lived) Michael Rabin, and Nathan Milstein. It may not be a very deep ... more
Georg Gulyás plays Bach II        (2 of 6 found this review helpful)

If you like your Bach transformed into elevator muzac, then this is the disc for you. I find it bland and boring, and ever so dull. Bach's music famously transcribes well to almost anything … but alas not here. Here it seems heavy, banal and trifling … lacking its usual complexity and any subtlety ... more
Corelli: Concerti Grossi Op. 6 - Musica Amphion        (2 of 7 found this review helpful)

This must be one of the worst sounding SACDs I have had the misfortune of purchasing: the sound is completely 'digital' - harsh and grainy. Awful. And if the sonics are dubious, I am not sure why anyone would want to specially purchase this as a SACD. What can be its raison d'être? It doesn't seem ... more
Mozart: Requiem - Böhm      (4 of 7 found this review helpful)

This is unquestionably the finest performance of Mozart's requiem I have yet heard on SACD .... Karajan's performance on SACD is scarred by a woeful performance by the choir. Harnoncourt's SACD version was not to my taste at all, and decidedly mediocre. This version is stately, grand, reverential, ... more

I'm also out. i.e. leaving Have met many interesting people here ... and have always thoroughly enjoyed the repartee, ... the friendship of many, ... discovering lots of new recordings from others recommendations, ... and I have learned a lot. It's a 48 kHz / 24 bit recording. I think its interest in the SACD community is to the multi-channel community, as it is a multi-channel recording. ... more

> Look, RBCD has witnessed double-digit drops in sales, year by year, for the last 10 years or so. The launch of Pono download store will only speed up its decline After 14 years of downloads, physical formats still command more than 50% of total music industry revenues. They will be with us forever ... even the LP is still around .., and now ... more
Should SA-CD.net take Blu-Ray Audio on board?

Anyway - I really don't understand why you (audioholik) think this has ANYTHING to do with CD ... because it plainly has nothing to do with CD. No-one is going to give up buying physical formats because of Pono. Pono is all about dividing up the existing market for downloads. And one only has to think about it for 2 minutes to realise it is going ... more
