| I've listened to these FLAC files in the following ways:
1) USB -> high-end amp -> high-end headphones
2) S/PDIF -> TacT Audio power DAC -> Revel loudspeakers
I guess the problem is more noticeable with the headphone rig, but it is definitely there with the main system.

| Hm. The "it's your hearing" explanation doesn't really explain why it's specifically this recording. The "it's your headphone amp" might explain the difference between this and a couple other recordings, but it's hard to see how it would explain the difference between this and many hundreds of other recordings. | I am listening to the FLAC download and hear the same thing. I don't know what to make of this. Vernier on ClassicsToday and Castor here on SA-CD.net both rave about the sound. I'm using a Meier Audio amp and AKG K701 headphones. Many of the tracks have a teeth-grating distortion/crackle whenever Zomer sings forte. I don't think my gear is busted. ... more |

| Oh right - of course. Hell of a piece of electronics, that thing. Still, to build a multichannel channel system around the (3-channel) 6B, with two more channels of amplification and a multichannel preamp(/processor) of corresponding quality, would have cost much, much more than the Linar.
