Reviews: Cardigans: Long Gone Before Daylight

Reviews: 4

Performance:   Sonics:
The Cardigans have been around for a while. They have had chart success all over Europe and are frequent performers at the big European Rock festivals. But this album isn’t really rocking, it consist mostly off well made pop rock and ballads. And this is not a bad thing. The delicate voice of the lead singer really isn’t that well suited for the harder stuff.
All in all a very pleasant sounding SACD with some lovely tunes and a very decent sound quality. If you like pop/rock then this is a good buy.

Performance:   Sonics:
The surround mix is not very inventive with no directional use of the surrounds and a totally silent centre channel. It seems the stereo mix is also being fed to the rears, albeit at a much lower level.

The surround track is nevertheless successful in immersing you in the music to a large degree. The improved resolution on the SACD makes it worth buying in any case, whether you listen in stereo or surround.

As for the music, this is pop/rock and the Cardigans at their very best.

Highly recommended!

Performance:   Sonics:
Swedish Cardigans hit the charts a decade ago with the song 'Lovefool'. Fortunatly they have been taking giant steps forward since then. On the album Gran turismo they tried hard rock music but I think the softer rock on 'Long gone before daylight' suits them much better. Since I have not heard their latest 'Super extra gravity', this album is the best yet.
Favorit song is the second, 'You're the storm' but I guess 'Live and learn' is the most famous one from this album.

The sonics are really great, I was actually surprised!
They don't use the center channel, but still the soundstage has great focus. The voice is transparent which is very important to me, and the instruments are well separeted. The sound quality is not far behind my best sacd's.
The surround mix is very careful with mostly ambient sound in the rear speakers, it fits great with the music.

Recomended!

Wonderful disc.

Subtle mix.

A lot of hurt went into the lyrics.

You have to hear it.
