Reviews: Danny Chan: SACD Collection

Reviews: 1

Review by soundboy November 30, 2004
Performance:   Sonics:
This was one of the earliest SACDs released in Hong Kong, and from a surprising source, Warner Music. This is a 2-disc set, one being a single-layer stereo SACD, with the other being a DSD-remastered CD of the same music. Given that this particular disc is a "Best of", the music was compiled from various sources over a number of years. Unlike most pop recordings made in HK, the mix on this SACD is very smooth sounding. This is probably due in part to the SACD being mastered by Sony in Japan. The sound quality is velvety, yet giving good details and resolution throughout the frequency spectrum. While Danny Chan's voice is still the focus, the music backing is now given equal weight in the mix. The sound quality is even better than the recently released XRCD2. For those who are familiar with HK pop music, the songs on this disc represent some of the best from the 80s and 90s.
