I am not good at reviewing so you will have to bear with an amateurish attempt.

I first heard Jimmy D Lane a couple of years ago. Since that time, this current release really seems to demonstrate better control of his instrument. This album never fails me when I put it on.

I really enjoy listening to SRV, and while Lane is not in that category I think he comes quite close.

He can sing, and that must be genetic. He is after all the son of Jimmy Rogers.

The SACD sounds great. Many complain that "modern" music defiles SACD. I think this album proves otherwise.

For me...its a highly recomended buy.

I had not been aware of the work of Jimmy D. Lane (other than by reputation) prior to purchasing this SACD. I purchased this based on my admiration of Double Trouble through their work with SRV. I have had pretty decent experiences with Analogue Productions releases in the past, so this seemed like an easy choice.

While some of the songwriting and guitar playing are not in the league of SRV (and I didn't expect it to be), the performance levels of all are definitely way up there. The combination of Lane's voice and very solid (right down the middle-style wise) playing style and another excellent performance by the SRV rhythm section rarely fails to please.

The opening number is a BIG winner, and it doesn't fall off much from there.

Some of the editing style would not have been my first choice. They leave the mikes/tape hiss hanging on a bit too long at the end of tracks for my taste. It almost as if they are trying to pound the listeners to make us remember the use of all analog recording/mastering equipment with this tactic.

If you enjoy sold middle-of-the-road electric blues...this will get my highest recommendation. Even after owning this for 6 months it's still in heavy rotation. I force feed all of my guitar-playing friends the opening track whenever they hitch a ride. :D
