I must admit the quality of this live Chesky recording with Pianos left and right from a single souce mic is very good.It also picks up loads of extraneaus noises apart from the appluause. Some of these noises I found annoying.
After a couple of plays I tired very quickly and decided that this was not interesting enough for me.I prefer my blues and boogie straight.
Im not sure of the reason but I dont think the numbers or Jazz arrangements are good enough to hold my attention. It was occasionally difficult to identify the theme on some of the tracks.
Playing is obviously excellent but I think a Jazz efficionardo would be better qualified to comment than an out and out Blues boogie and spiritual lover.12 tracks and 60 minutes.Standard cd case and a few semi helpfull notes.

Performance:   Sonics:
B. Seeley p, E. Reed p, J. O`Neal p, M. Braun p, M. Alexander p, Chesky 2004.
Twelve tracks of solo piano blues, boogie and spirituals are played by the five pianists, two tracks are duets. The recording was done at A.C. Pianocraft Recital Hall, NYC before a life audience with a single point microphone. The music is played on two different concert grands.
I`m a dedicated fan of the Chesky sound, but I think this recording experiment failed. I don`t know if it`s because of the acoustics of the location or the recording technique or whatever, that the sound isn`t that good. On other solo piano discs you can hear more details because of the more direct recording of the piano. I think, that would have been better in this case, too, because it would have been very interesting to hear more differences and nuances in the playing of that five piano men.
