Performance:   Sonics:
I am not going to discuss the performance here because I absolutely LOVE all Patricia barber's albuma.
Sonically speaking this SACD is (like all the other Patricia Barber SACDs) one of the best SACDs I've ever heard! Absolutely stunning!

Performance:   Sonics:
I own two other Mobile Fidelity Patricia Barber SACD's: Modern Cool and Companion - both are wonderful albums. The Companion disc contains the best arrangement of "Black Magic" I've ever heard. But this Verse album is absolutely a stunning work musically and sonically from the clever and foot tapping beginning track "The Moon" to the melancholy ending track "If I Were Blue".

You could argue Ms. Barber tends to talk more through her songs than sing, but this album demonstrates she is a prolific composer and lyricist, and the consummate pianist. Each track contains wonderfully unique arrangements with structure, pace and rhythm. Ms. Barber has a clearly identifiable music style and allows her fellow musicians (Michael Arnopol/bass, Neal Alger/guitars, Dave Douglas/trumpet, Joey Baron and Eric Montzka/drums) to fully participate in the music development on each track.

A friend has the RBCD version of this album that allows you to hear how well this album was recorded and mixed, but the SACD is in another league sonically. This Mobile Fidelity production will give you a sense of having the performers in the room with its articulation, micro-dynamics, imaging, and overall dynamic range. I consider it one of the musical and sonic gems in my SACD collection and each listening session with this album sends chills up my spine.

Performance:
Great performance (I am a huge fan though).

The sonics are excellent, but you need a good system to get full value.

Highly recommended.
