Reviews: Yosuke Onuma: Beautiful Day

Performance:   Sonics:
Y. Onuma g & eg & gut g & e-sitar, L. Goines b & eb, S. Ferrone ds, SMJI 2007.
On his 6th SACD Onuma plays a more rock-oriented electric jazz with his partners who are greats in the fusion-scene. Eight songs were written by Onuma, who is a wonderful young composer and guitar player, one track comes from Goines and Affirmation is, as far as I know, the first Jose-Feliciano-composition on a jazz record. Most of the music is of the electric kind, some with driving up tempo rhythms and some great soloing, but there are fantastic acoustic tracks, too. This is contemporary jazz rock/pop fusion at its best. I like that stuff very much.
The sound is perfect, rich of colour, very good soundstage and imaging, air for the instruments to breath, very dynamic, brilliant.
