I did play it about a year ago and I was impressed but haven't heard it in awhile. Will scout it out and replay it and report back, Lunna.

SQ was excellent, though!

Just gave this lovely disc a spin last night and reaffirmed my original impression. As the title infers, this is the gentle side of Ben Webster playing with the Tete Montoliu Trio (Tete on piano, Peer Wyboris on drums and Eric Peter on bass). I am not familiar with this trio but an excellent recording and excellent balancing of instruments ably support Webster's tenor sax. There is sufficient diversity to pique most interests and for a 1972 recording recorded in Barcelona the AP SACD remastering (done by Kevin Gray/Cohearent Audio/authored by Gus Skinas on the Sonoma system)) is pretty much state of the art.

Would I recommend it.......absolutely! Total running time is 56:18.

Cool, thanks Rammie! I do like that late at night sax music. Not too slow or melancholic?

And Gentle Ben will deliver that to you in spades!

Back in 1978, an artsy girlfriend and I went down to NY to 'do the galleries'. After supper we had a drink in a Village bar, sitting beside the sound system and rack of cassette tapes. The tape which was playing when we came in finished, and the supercool NY bartender came over to put on another tape. I said "May I pick the next tape?". He stared at me in silence for two seconds, then said "Fine. If I like it the next drink's free, but if I don't like it I'm gonna throw you outa' my bar." I smiled and pointed to the Ben Webster and Harry 'Sweets' Edison tape -- and my friend and I got free drinks.

This ia a very unusual Analogue Productions release, since it's not an album on a well known jazz label. It's well worth an audiophile reissue.

Astral's review of this disc has been weighing on my conscience for too long. Another perspective, which I think many of you share:
