J just got my copy and playing it for the first time now.
Sound is excellent..brisk tempos..
some are downright scary..my brain has trouble imagining some
of the numbers actually being danced.

Not often recorded so better be good.

I would rate this recording at the top. Performance is brisk and the quality of this recording is just awesome. I brought up a very short suggestion for bissie the last time to do a Swan Lake recording. Seems that this is one of the very few Swan Lake being released as SACD.

Few? There are only 2 that have been released complete and the other one is OOP.

Oh, forgot Previn, but that's an expensive option.

Don't know of any others other than the Naxos and EMI releases. Do you?

I received my copy a few days ago, and promptly played the entire two discs. THIS is what SACD's are all about: outstanding musicianship; some of the most beautiful music ever written; and state-of-the-art, demonstration worthy sonics.

I'm awaiting delivery of "Sleeping Beauty" by Jarvi, and fully expect it will be at least the equal of "Swan Lake." I've had an old Telarc CD of suites from the two ballets, but it sounds like a typical CD, despite Telarc's famous use of very loud tympani and bass drums, which, when played a bit too loud, shut down my B&W speakers repeatedly. I've given away that disc, as with this stunner, and the Sleeping Beauty expected to be much the same, I just had no use for it.

This has to rank as one of the very best SACD's I own. I can't recommend it highly enough.

This is also available as a Studio Master for download from The Classical Shop in both stereo and 5.1.

If you purchase a higher level format you also get the lower level formats as well. E.G. If you purchase the Surround option you also get the 24bit Studio Master, the 16bit CD and MP3 versions as well. :)

Top Tip for Debussy fans: instead of purchasing the 5 individual volumes of Jean-Efflam Bavouzets - Debussy 'Complete Works for Piano' studio master @ £15.99 each, purchase all the volumes, the entire 6 hours, for £23.97 instead
