Zeus - There are a few Neil Young Blu-ray audio releases that aren't in the database, is there a reason for that or is there something I can do to get them submitted?

Michi. Haven't heard from you in ages. Was playing the SONY SACD sampler the other day which you so kindly sent me and thought to myself: where has Michi been?

A Bunch of Neil Young BD~As, in fact including the 10 volume Archive set which I've yet to get through.

And now Neil has gone PONO so I don't suppose there'll be a Volume II.

Have you had a chance to both hear and view his BD~A of Americana? Some pretty interesting video accompanies the BD~A and the album certainly grows on you.

Polly is working his way through current BD-A titles but all this takes time. If you have titles you want added submitting them will make this job easier. Thanks.

I think they are only doing Blu Ray Audio only.

I summited Steve Wilson Drive Home, has video and not allowed at this time.

I find it very positive that BD-A has been accomodated on this site, even though I haven't yet adpoted the Blu-ray format.

In fact, the only thing that's holding me back from buying any BD-As, is the belief that this format is not backwards compatible, unlike the most well behaved SACDs and all the DVD-As I own. Anyway, this leads me to a question for which I'm struggling to find information - apologies if I haven't looked hard enough.

Is anyone able to confirm/answer what I believe to be the case with BD-As, i.e. that they are not hybrid discs with a SD layer?

Although I do not have yet a BD compatible player, the only thing holding me back from buying any of the discs is the above belief. If I knew that they were like DVD-As or even SACDs, I'd start buying now in preparation - just as I did with the other hi-res formats.

Thanks in advance.

you are correct, the discs themselves only play on Blu-ray players or Universal machines that are BD-capable.

you can enjoy the downloads that come with the Universal High Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-ray's until such time as you get a player.

afaik there are also various titles available on BDA from other labels that are SACD/BD combi packs, I don't own any of these (yet) I've only bought standalone releases so far but I'm sure some are listed at sa-cd.net already.

Michi,

to change the subject slightly.. is the 5.6MHz DSD update for Sonoma DAW you were talking about some time ago still happening?

While there are specs for Blu-ray Hybrid discs I don't believe this has been used for music. All Blu-ray Audio titles being added to this site are single (or dual) layer. As such you'll need a Blu-ray player or transport to read them. Quite a few though are sold as two disc sets with either a CD or SA-CD for backwards compatibility.

One advantage of Blu-ray discs is that there's space available to incorporate an additional copy of the music in a form you can copy to a computer, just as you would a download. All but the earliest 2L Blu-ray releases give you a 24/96 FLAC file you can do what you like with. (I'm not sure how common this is with other labels.) This is great if you prefer to listen in just stereo and the capabilities of the DAC attached to a computer playback system are superior to those in your receiver. This to me is the best of both worlds.

Can the "additions" page be set up so that new SACD and Blu-ray Audio disc get separated?
