Kobayashi's M3 on Exton is magnificent - but that is with the Czech PO.

His growling can be a distraction but it can add to the intensity of the performance...

One Japanese M9 on SACD I can recommend is the Tokyo MSO under Bertini - that is very good indeed.

Anybody here who has heard Elijahu Inbal's recording of Mahler's 9th for Exton?
I was duly impressed by his live Mahler 9 with the SSO at the Esplanade in Singapore a couple of days ago.
When I asked him if he had recorded it recently he said yes in Tokyo and I filled, for Exton?
And he answered yes.
This morning I played the first movement from both of the two hi res downloads I have with me on my travels and although one was clearly better than the other, neither was anywhere close to the mighty power and refinement of Mahler's 9th as I had heard it live during the weekend.
Some here say they can get closer to a symphony through a recording.
But imo,no way! No recording beats or even equals live.
Anyway,I wonder if Inbal's Tokyo recording is available as a DSD download?
But as far as Mahler's 9th is concerned, I am also eager to hear what Ivan Fischer and the BFO's recording will be like ,when Jared releases it in a month or two.
Eliahu Inbal also said that in his opinion,it is one of the greatest symphonic works ever written.
I definitely agree.
And I for one am still searching for a both interpretatively and recording-wise absolute top quality modern hi res recording of it.
